Sam is an exhilarating young Coach, who the Pickering Master Splashers are excited to welcome back for her fifth season with the club. Sam has had a long and very successful career in swimming despite her young age. She began swimming for fun, though it turned into a passion and a home. From lessons to swimming competitively as a member of the Pickering Swim Club, she realized the value of hard work, goal setting, dedication, and team building, and went on to qualify for OFSAA for all four years of attending St. Mary C.S.S.. In 2014, Sam began studying Kinesiology at Ontario Tech University, and graduated 2018 with a Bachelor of Health Science, Hons. Sam enjoys working with athletes of all ages, while using her health and fitness knowledge to improve the quality of life of others, as well as herself. When off the pool deck, Sam loves to travel but spends most of her time in her backyard with her dogs, enjoying nature and staying active.
Iain is enthusiastic proponent of swimming and has been involved in competitive swimming from the age of 10. Since then Iain has Swum varsity at university and most recently competed at the World Master Swimming Championships in 2014. Iain has been a member of PMS since 2007 and Coaching with PMS since 2014, having attained his NCCP Swim certification, Iain looks forward to sharing his swimming knowledge with members of the club.
Rene St Aubin began his coaching career in swimming in 1972 when he started teaching at Cedarbrae C.I. Five year later the Cedarbrae swimmers were O.F.S.S.A. swimming champions and remained Scarborough champions for the next 25 years.
Rene has also coached the Pickering Swim Club at the developmental level. More recently Rene has been successfully coaching the Pickering Master Splashers for the last number of years bringing his wealth of swimming knowledge to the new as well as seasoned masters swimmer.
Paul our President has been involved in swimming his entire life. He has been swimming competitively about as long as he can remember. His swim coach got him involved as an assistant coach and swim instructor when he was in his teens. He kept up coaching and instructing until he was part way through university. He started with the Pickering Master Splashers when he was in his twenties, although he did take a break for a while as his kids were growing up. He began officiating at his kids’ swim meets when they swam competitively in Pickering, mainly as starter and referee.
Paul has been active in helping run the Pickering Master Splashers for quite a few years. He still enjoys going to swim meets on a regular basis. That being said, his son Nicholas, who is a competitive swimmer as well, keeps reminding him that he is quite a bit slower than he says he used to be.
David McMullan has been a member of PMS since 1989. Currently occupying position of treasurer for the club. A long time proponent of an active lifestyle. From Rafting the Nahani in the NWT to hiking the Grand Canyon, he enjoys many outdoor pursuits, often in the company of my wife of twenty-five years and two sons.
A graduate of York University with an honours BSC in Physical Education David was a member of the York University varsity swim team. At that time and since, he has had the opportunity to coach both age group and masters swimmers. David has also been active in multi sport events over the last twenty years starting in 1985 with a bike/paddle/run event called the Bone Crusher Triathlon. since then he has participated in the more conventional triathlon format since 1989, having competed in various distances up to and including the Florida Ironman in 2003 and 6 additional times since. With regard to running he has raced most distances up to and including the marathon distance.
